Ana Oliveira, president and chief executive officer of the New York Women's Foundation, writes how philanthropy enables the building of strategic partnerships "between women who have resources to give and women who are addressing the challenges of poverty and violence through nonprofits that create change for the people they serve."

Oliveira notes that because of philanthropy, "Donors, community leaders, researchers, corporate partners and policy makers are all able to collaborate on solutions in pursuit of a shared goal."
