In recognition of the growing interest in environmental issuesand careers, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established theNational Network for Environmental Management Studies (NNEMS) Fellowship Program in 1986 to encourage students to pursue environmental careers.

Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society.
