Collaborative research on influenza and other respiratory pathogens in South Africa

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity is to conduct research studies on influenza and other respiratory pathogens of public health import in South Africa.

The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) in CDC is seeking to initiate a cooperative agreement with


the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), Republic of South Africa, to conduct research on surveillance (inclusive of the epidemiology, disease burden, transmission, and laboratory methods), preventive tools and strategies (e.g., vaccines, antivirals), and strategies for increasing coverage of morbidity and mortality mitigating interventions.

Data will be used to inform prioritization of public health interventions in high-risk populations in South Africa, the region, and globally.
