Emerging Infections Programs

The purpose of this FOA is to sustain and enhance the existing Emerging Infections Program (EIP) network.

EIPs assist in local, state, and national efforts to prevent, control, and monitor the public health impact of infectious diseases.

Activities of the EIPs fall into the following overall

categories:
(1) active surveillance; (2) applied public health epidemiologic and laboratory activities; (3) implementation and evaluation of pilot prevention/intervention projects; and (4) flexible response to public health emergencies and newly emerging issues.

The EIP network is particularly suited to address key public health issues and inform public health policy and treatment guidelines, focusing on priority activities that lead directly to the prevention of disease.

Specifically, this FOA addresses the following EIP activities:
Active Bacterial Core Surveillance (ABCs), Foodborne Disease Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet), Influenza, Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance, Human Papilloma Virus IMPACT, Lyme and Other Tickborne Diseases (TickNET), Rotavirus, Prion Disease, Arbovirus, Congenital Cytomegalovirus, and other applicant-specific activities.
